Jacob Vos was the founder of Jac. Vos & Co. (1869–1919). Known as a royal jeweler, the company designed and created the rosette tiara with pearls for Queen Emma in 1889. The business later became known as “Juweelenfabriek N.V. fabriek van Gouden en Zilveren werken”. His son Dirk joined the company in 1911. Based in Rotterdam, it was a company with various specializations and a drive for expansion. In addition to jewelry manufacturing, the silver department was strengthened in 1914 with the acquisition of the Zaanlandse Zilversmederij, and in 1917 with Van Ghijben from ’s-Hertogenbosch. In 1919, the company merged into Van Kempen & Begeer & Vos, which would later become known as Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer (Royal Van Kempen & Begeer). Apparently, there was also room for side ventures, as in 1926 the Vos Diamant Maatschappij (Vos Diamond Company) was founded in The Hague, explicitly carrying the addition “formerly Jac. Vos & Co.” That company would remain officially registered—with master’s mark and importer’s mark—until 1968.
