Dumbar, Archibald

Archibald Dumbar edelsmid

Archibald Dumbar (1916-1988) started to work as an independent artist in Amsterdam in the difficult post-war years. His technique was fabulous and with the restricted means of those days he managed to make sparkling 3-dimensional jewellery. Many designs were composed of wire so the weight of the piece was as economic as possible but it is also a reflection of the constructivist movement as can be seen in the work of e.g. Naum Gabo.
